Take the A-8 to Santillana del Mar and its National Museum of Altamira, or Comillas, a Modernist gem with Sobrellano Palace, the Pantheon Chapel, the Pontifical University and Gaudí's El Capricho... Inland, cross the impressive La Hermida gorge to visit the Liébana valley: Potes, Santo Toribio de Liébana and Fuente Dé, where you can take a cable car to the Mirador del Cable viewpoint. Laredo, very close to the accommodation, is home to beautiful La Salve beach. About 40 minutes east lies Bilbao, once an iron and steel city, now a tourist destination. Visit the Guggenheim and Fine Arts museums, Doña Casilda de Iturrizar Park, Gran Vía with its magnificent bourgeois buildings, and the beautiful Old Town with its famous Seven Streets and Plaza Nueva, where you can enjoy its renowned pintxos and tapas with a good txakoli wine.
